The Drexels
The Drexels are a post-punk rock band from Cleveland, Ohio that mixes old school punk rock-n-roll with a hard indie edge to deliver a maximum stage presence. The Band formed in late Nov of 2007 with the core members being Bobby J, Matt Mugridge, Billy Spear, Paul Strachan, playing its first show a mix of covers of Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Clash and God Squad songs in December 2007 @ Beachland Tavern, Cleveland, Ohio to a enthusiastic crowd of friends.many shows later at clubs like Now Thats Class, Grog Shop, the band was honing its set to now include original material which was taking shape. Tragically lead singer Matt Mugridge founder of The Grog Shop and a very influential figure in the Cleveland Punk Scene passed away in May of 2009. After a year hiatus the band decided to continue on with the original spirit of it all as The Drexels with Bobby J taking over lead vocals. Other shows to note were at the Beachland Ballroom and at the 39th Street Pub in Pittsburgh, PA with the Cynics. He worked with Wayne Kramer (MC5) and recorded a single for Wayne Kramer's Compilation "Beyond CyberPunk" released on Muzic Blitz Records in 2001. The God Squad Retrospective 86-89 "Just Have to Live it" a double CD with 22 tracks was picked up and released on Smog Veil Records (Chicago) in 2002.
